General Dynamics SATCOM Technologies, working in concert with its SATCOM Technologies Asia operations, is supporting two separate communications programs in India with the Company's Warrior™ SMT (Small Manportable Terminal) products.

SATCOM Technologies is supplying several 1.2-Meter Ku-Band Warrior SMT units and a 4.8-Meter communications hub to Larsen & Toubro Ltd. of Bangalore, India. The Company is also supplying a number of 1.0-Meter Ku-Band Warrior SMTs to Bharat Electronics Ltd. of Ghaziabad, India. Both programs are in support of the Indian Ministry of Defense.

SATCOM Technologies' Warrior SMT is a 'quick deploy' manpack terminal that provides secure or non-secure communications over Ku-band (Ka and X-band available) and is fully equipped to handle high speed data transmissions. The SMT is the most advanced version of the General Dynamics Warrior™ product line which delivers true, Broadband, Internet Protocol two-way connectivity under the harshest conditions.

Warrior SMT terminals boast a high-level feature set which includes an embedded modem (either a LWS2, HNS or iDirect); integrated electronics and interconnections; simple satellite auto-acquisition and the fastest setup time in the industry - under five minutes - made possible by a special step ring focus antenna design and a compact, lightweight solid-state power amplifier. The terminal also includes a tunable LNB system that allows the user to operate in full Ku-band without changing LNB systems in the field.

Additional features of the Warrior SMT include:

  • Highly efficient axis-symmetric optics which allow the BUC and LNB to be mounted directly to the feed for a compact, balanced and accessible system
  • The ECU allows the embedded modem and controller to operate over a wide temperature range without degrading performance
  • A precision azimuth/elevation gear drive to quickly point the antenna on target with minimal backlash and maximum stiffness
  • An elevated tri-pod base provides operators easy access while keeping the system clear of ground debris

For operations in high altitude conditions, the Warrior SMT offers an optional low power, lightweight anti-ice function. The terminal is also equipped with a powerful monitor and control system that significantly enhances usability and fault detection.

The lightweight Warrior SMTs are easily portable in a Multi-Pack Configuration (light backpack/transit cases).

Warrior SMT units are capable of transmitting data rates greater than 4.0 Mbps and receiving data at 18.0 Mbps. The Warrior SMT quick deploy terminal can support tactical communications applications ranging from real time video to the transmission and reception of large data files.

Randeep Sethi, President of SATCOM Technologies Asia said, "The Warrior SMT's unsurpassed ability to provide high data rate Video, Voice and Data communications via a lightweight, easy-to-use terminal was a key factor in our customer's selection process."
