USMC’s lightweight, transportable antenna terminals are certified to operate over Ka-Band on the Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) network.

SATCOM Technologies’ 1.2-Meter and 1.8-Meter antenna terminals have successfully completed rigorous testing and certification from the U. S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command (SMDC/ARSTRAT). The Warrior-brand 1.2 and 1.8-Meter Ka-Band configurations are now certified to operate over Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS).

SATCOM Technologies supplies the terminals to the US Marine Corps as part of the Support Wide Area Network (SWAN) program. They are used to provide deployed warfighters robust, beyond-line-of-sight communications for a broad spectrum of information services including video, multimedia, data and imagery. The SWAN program is acquiring the equipment through the World-Wide Satellite Systems (WWSS) contract which is intended to provide communications systems that are capable of overcoming existing and projected bandwidth constraints for Department of Defense transformation programs worldwide.

The ARSTRAT certified Ka-band upgrade provides enhanced communications capabilities for the SWAN program including:

  • Higher data-rate throughput
  • Additional SATCOM spacecraft options via the use of Ka-band
  • Reduced space segment cost through access to WGS
  • Highly integrated Ka-Band RF/Feed Packages to minimize terminal footprint and reduce weight

The SWAN 1.2 and 1.8-Meter terminals are comprised of Very Small Aperture (VSAT) antenna subsystems, solid state power amplifiers w/ integrated block upconverters, low noise block downconverters, TDMA modems, and auto tracking control systems. Marvin Shoemake, Vice President of Sales for SATCOM Technologies, said, “The purpose of ARSTRAT certification is to ensure that all WGS terminals conform to stringent performance and operational control requirements. Successful completion of ARSTRAT testing provides a major Ka-band upgrade for the SWAN program, and, because ARSTRAT is a type certification, it also enhances SATCOM Technologies’ Warrior 1.2 and 1.8-meter platforms which are offered to a wider customer base.”
